Data & sources

Reference data should be visible, dated and explainable.

Styrvia shows the source and date for reference data. Pension age and other forward choices stay in your plan.

Early Access data: this page describes the reference data and update behaviour used by Personal Early Access.

What Styrvia uses, and when

The forward plan and the historical tests use different data.

Your forward plan uses the assumptions you enter. Reference data supports conversion and historical testing.

Model areaWhat Styrvia usesWhen it is used
Forward planYour long-term inflation, expected share return, expected bond return and property-growth assumptions. The normal projection and the central assumptions behind Market simulation. Historical observations do not replace these inputs.
Currency conversionReviewed ECB reference FX for supported currencies, with user-entered rates available where needed. When foreign-currency amounts need to be translated into the plan currency. Current conversion uses the rate in the plan; it does not turn today’s rate into a future currency forecast.
Past-market sharesPersonal: bundled US broad-equity history. Professional: US, developed-international and global equity histories where those series are installed and selected.Replays historical equity years against the household plan. A holding label by itself does not create a historical series.
Past-market bonds & cash10-year US Treasury total-return history and 3-month US Treasury-bill returns.Historical defensive-asset sleeves in Past-market test. These are common historical proxies, not country-specific bond/cash histories. A current government-bond yield is not treated as a long-term return assumption.
Past-market inflationHistorical CPI for the plan country where available; then the embedded World series; then US CPI for earlier uncovered years.Converts Past-market outcomes and spending into historical real terms. It is separate from the forward inflation assumption.
Past-market housingBIS national residential-property history for the selected property country, or a proxy only if you choose one. When a historical path needs a property value for a sale. If required years are missing, that starting window is excluded rather than filled with 0% growth.

ECB reference rates support current currency conversion. They are observations, not forecasts. Dated FX scenarios are planned.

Historical market proxies

US equity, bonds & cash

1928 - 2025
US broad equity · 10-year US Treasury total return · 3-month US Treasury bills

Used in Styrvia Personal Past-market test. They are historical reference sequences, not forward-return assumptions.

Historical inflation

Country CPI with labelled fallbacks

World Bank WDI / IMF IFS country histories are used where available, followed by World and then US CPI for uncovered earlier years.

The selected source is historical context only. Forward inflation remains the user-entered planning assumption.

The Personal app does not fetch market data while you use it.
Reference updates

Reference updates stay separate from your plan.

When online, Styrvia can check for newer reviewed reference information without changing your plan.

Check and review

Use Check for reference update. Newer reference data stays separate until you choose to apply it.

See the source and date

Reference information stays labelled with its source and date.

Your assumptions stay yours

A reference update does not replace your forward assumptions. Manual overrides stay in place until you change or remove them.

Country & lifecycle reference research

Pension-age research informs; it does not set your plan.

Styrvia researches public information that can help you check country-specific inputs. Research does not become a plan default just because a source exists.

Pension-age context

OECD retirement-age research

OECD Pensions at a Glance 2025 publishes comparable retirement-age measures. Actual eligibility can differ by scheme, cohort and contribution history.

Your lifecycle inputs

Pension age stays under your control

Styrvia uses the Pension age you enter as the default start age for that adult’s pensions unless a pension has its own start age. Planned work retirement is a separate timing choice. A specific pension start age or income end date takes priority.

Promotion rule

Research is not a default

Broader country research can cover pension age, life expectancy and tax. Styrvia shows these only after review; missing country values are not guessed.

Current currency reference: 30 ECB currencies, latest reviewed observation 31 July 2026. Pension-age research is separate context, not a plan default.
How reference data affects the model

History tests the plan. It does not become the plan.

Past-market test replays observed sequences. Market simulation is separate and generates synthetic paths from model assumptions.

Your own history

Bring your own investment history when it is more relevant.

Styrvia Personal can use local CSV history for up to three investments. Long-run analysis requires at least 20 calendar years per series; files are processed locally.

Proxy choice is yours.
Styrvia does not choose a proxy automatically. If you use one, select and supply it deliberately.
Historical inflation source & licence

Country CPI history is sourced from an openly licensed World Bank indicator.

Styrvia uses annual country CPI history from World Bank WDI indicator FP.CPI.TOTL.ZG, sourced from IMF International Financial Statistics and published under CC BY 4.0.

Historical housing

57 national residential-property histories, with the source and coverage visible.

Styrvia includes BIS Selected Residential Property Prices for 57 countries. These are national series, not valuations for a city, neighbourhood or property type. A proxy is used only if you choose one.

Past-market use: the selected housing series is used when a historical path needs a property sale value. Missing required years exclude that starting window. See Methodology →
Coverage varies. 49 of 57 embedded series span at least 20 calendar years. The app shows the selected country/proxy coverage.
